Reframing a calendar as an interactive and personalized branding experience
about this project
As part of a class project, we were asked to create a fictional company and then brand it and create several specific design pieces for it. One of those pieces included a calendar. For my client, I chose to invent a hovering backpack that I named ALA (Latin for wing). I felt the standard desk or wall calendar didn’t make sense for such a mobile product. I worked with a local metal manufacturer to create this perpetual calendar that could be attached to the bag itself and be more functional to the owner. This calendar not only tells the date accurately for 50 years, but it also doubles as an identity label – so if it is lost this bag could safely be returned to its owner.
